- t_headline: School approaches to management tasks
t_text: Management as an activity is as old as the human race. However, as a concept, it evolved when managers during the industrial revolution times had to deal with dynamic work pressures and labor dissatisfaction and felt the pressing need to find the best way' of doing things. Below are the evolutionary stages of the school of management thoughts-
School of thought #1
The first school of management called scientific management was given by Fredrick W. Taylor, who is also hailed as the father of scientific management. He advocated that top management must study the systematic task and develop precise procedures to do that. His philosophies were used by the thinkers later to propose various principles of management. An associate of Fayol, Henry Gantt developed Gantt Chart which is a popular bar graph used for measuring work.
School of thought #2
It is the Management Process School approach. Henry Fayol, the father of this school built a thought that management is a universal phenomenon and is a process of getting things done. Further, he described planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling as the main functions of management. Other thinkers that belonged to this school were Mooney, Reiley, Urwick, Koontz, etc.
School of thought #3
This school of thought explored the human side of the management concept. It stressed that employees have needs, aspirations, wants, and desires for continuous recognition, appreciation, participation, good communication, and leadership. It also highlighted that apart from formal organizational structure, employees also form an informal group to get a sense of constant belongingness.
School of thought #4
This Human Behavioral School approach highlighted the application of psychological and social findings on human behavior. It pointed out that how human behavior and conduct at the workplace are subject to emotions, feelings, aims, instincts, and hopes. This thought underlined that until those behavioral needs are not met or at least addressed once, no management is successfully possible.
School of thought #5
The system approach refers organization as a system of inter-related and inter-dependent factors which cannot be isolated from one another. Each unit of this system impacts the other.
School of thought #6
This decision theory model referred to decision-making as the most critical aspect of management that decides the future roadmap of an organization. It also stressed that a rational approach must be followed while making decisions.
School of thought #7
This school considered management as a logical process that can be best expressed using mathematical equations and quantitative models. It also directed that devising solution models for various problems and situations can lead to a better understanding of them to attain the goal.
School of thought #8
The contingency approach is an extension of the system approach. It stressed that management as an activity is situational, which entirely depends on external and internal variables. There cannot be one solution fit for every situation.

t_text: After making the list of all tasks that you would be dealing with, the next thing is to set the time limits and work with them. For that, identify their order of importance, difficulty order, and frequency of occurrence and prepare a timeline view. Within this, you can also fix the deadlines, and respective accountabilities, and set who will report to whom. Such prior planning will help you chase the task progress and notice deviations. Moreover, you can always get the deviations fixed when you know their root cause.
