t_text:
Keyed Entry is when payment card information is typed into a POS system instead of the card being swiped, tapped, or inserted. That usually takes place when the reader can’t read the physical card or when a payment is made by phone.

Restaurants can use Keyed Entry to process sales in a pinch by bypassing the swiping reader process. Keyed entries allow restaurants to complete transactions even when standard card-reading methods are unavailable.

How Does Keyed Entry Work in Restaurants?

When it comes to keyed entry transactions, it involves the merchant or cashier entering the card details into the POS transaction slide. Then the transaction is routed through a payment gateway for processing, as in any other card transaction.
This includes-

Card number

Validity period

Card verification value (CVV)

Billing ZIP or postal code (if applicable)

Keyed entry is frequently used for phone orders, online payments with manual processing, or when a card reader cannot read the card.
