t_text:
Item mapping is the process by which the menu item in a restaurant’s POS system is connected to other systems, such as inventory management, online ordering systems, accounting systems, and 3rd party delivery. This ensures that an item will have the same name across different platforms and in reports.

How Does Item Mapping Work in Restaurant POS Systems

Item mapping is a process where a unique identifier or link is established between a POS item and other integrated system items.

This is the way it usually works-

The restaurant creates a menu item in the POS.

That item is linked to the inventory ingredients in the recipe.

The same product is mapped to online ordering menus and delivery platforms as well.

When the product is sold, the POS adjusts the inventory count and sales reports automatically.

For Example, if a pizza is ordered via an online delivery service, item mapping guarantees that the POS system accurately registers the sale and deducts the necessary ingredients from the inventory. This integration brings automation to the process, eliminates report errors, and keeps in sync with all the restaurant systems.
